Proverbs The Basics The book of Proverbs was written by Solomon. The author’s name means peace. He was the son of David. He was the king of Israel.

Proverbs1:2-4 The Purpose To form right ideas about things. V, 2 That we might know how to speak and act wisely. To distinguish between falsehood and error. To live our lives rightly in everything. v. 3

“To make the foolish and bad and to make the wise and good Proverbs1:2-4 For whose use were they written? For the everyman. Isaiah 35:8 For young people. v. 4 Job 11:12 What good use can be made of them? “To make the foolish and bad wise and good and to make the wise and good even wiser and better.”

Proverbs 1:7 Verse Analysis “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; Fools despise wisdom and instruction.” The Fear of the Lord Reverence, Service, Worship The Alpha and Omega Of Knowledge “Careful to please God in everything, fearful to not offend him in anything.”

Proverbs 1:8 Verse Analysis “Hear my son, thy father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.” Trust and Obey In the parent/child relationship who is do the trusting and who is to do the obeying? Parent is to be trusted and obeyed.

Proverbs 1:10-19 Verse 17 Analysis “Indeed it is useless to spread the baited net in the sight of any bird” A net was spread carefully on the ground in an area where birds were known to feed. Bait was placed in the middle of the trap and birds, focused on the food, not on the danger were easily trapped. Job 35:11

Proverbs 1:20-33 Analysis Verse 29-31 “Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the Lord. They would not accept my counsel, they spurned all my reproof. So shall they eat of the fruit of their own devices . Every decision I make has a consequence(s). I will either consider the consequences before or after I act.
