© 2014 wheresjenny.com Folk Tales Vocabulary Folklore (or lore) (Folk tales): consists of legends, music, oral history, proverbs, jokes, popular beliefs, fairy tales, stories, tall tales, and customs included in the traditions of a culture, subculture, or group. The study of folklore is sometimes called folkloristics, and people who study folklore are sometimes referred to as folklorists. Fables: a short moral story, esp. one with animals as characters Myths: A myth is a story that usually explains something about the world and involves gods and other superhuman beings. Fairy tale: It is a type of imaginative writing that carries the reader into an invented world where the laws of nature, as we know them, do not operate. A proverb: is a simple and concrete saying, popularly known and repeated, that expresses a truth based on common sense or the practical experience of humanity.
