Presentation transcript:

 Every journey story has stages…

 What did it feel like to get called out of the classroom on Wednesday?  What was Katniss’s call to adventure?  Katniss’s sister, Prim, is called for the Hunger Games, but Katniss volunteers in in her place.

 Who are your spiritual guides? Who are the people who will guide you on this journey?  Who were Katniss’s spiritual guides?

 Every hero leaves the world they are in and enters a new one. This new world has new rules and values.  What new world are you entering?  When does Katniss cross the threshold?  Training at the capitol

 The hero is tested and figures out who their allies and enemies may be.  What challenges and temptations might you face?  Who are your allies?  How is Katniss tested? How does she figure out who her allies and enemies are?  Katniss has no allies in the games (except Peeta, but this isn’t clear at first), but during the training process Katniss is very fond of her training team (especially Cinna). Katniss is very aware that the single digit districts are very well trained and a major threat (ex. Districts 1-4). Katniss also goes thorough many tests where she has to prove she’s a warrior in training and in the games.

 Near the middle of the story, the hero confronts death or faces his or her greatest fear. Out of the moment of death comes a new life.  Have you ever confronted a fear?  When did Katniss face death and rebirth during the games?  Katniss and Rue become allies and Rue is killed. This scares Katniss into thinking this could have been Prim. This moment give Katniss a softer side and shows she has emotion during the games.

 The hero takes the treasure won by facing death. The hero may celebrate, but they may also fear losing it again.  What are the rewards of facing your fears?  When did Katniss find the treasure of success?

 Here the hero knows that the challenge he or she faced changed him or her in some way. Now that the challenge has passed, the hero has to accept his or her transformed self.  Are you different now than you were when you were younger? Are you stronger? A better leader?  How has Katniss changed because of the games? How does she need to see herself differently?

 The hero returns home with the power to change the world somehow.  At the end of your journey, what treasure do you want to give the world? How might you change the world?  How does Katniss transform the world?
