Presentation transcript:

Question 3 I believe that a film company that would be most suited to distributing our Independent film would be a Independent thriller company that had a target audience of people from the ages of from European country's the reason that I would want to have a company that aimed at an audience of this age is because the main character in the thriller film is of the similar age (16) which makes the audience be able to relate to her and understand what troubles she may be feeling. I chose the audience also to be in European country because the issues that she is coming across may differ through offer culture and most European country have fairly similar cultures and issues. The other reason that this film would be suited into a independent distribution company would be because the film is a low budget film so we would not be able to afford the expenses of getting the film disturbed by a Block buster film distribution film. Joe Irvine HIDDEN

Explain the difference between Mainstream and Independent film The main difference between a Mainstream and a Independent film is the size of the audience and the amount of money that each one costs. With a Mainstream film they have a huge audience although they still have a target audience it is usually very general or is huge for example the film "The expendables "is aimed at male from the ages of the reason that it is for males is because it is a action film and it is for that age because It is a R rated film. Where as a independent film would be a film like the film “Broson”which is fairly low budget and is filmed in a very stylistic way. Also this film was very low budget and was done by a fairly new Director. Independent although are indented for a small audience can become very popular “Broson” is a very good example of this as the film became very popular and really boosted the career of the main actor Tom Hardy. The Target audience originally for the film Broson was aimed at year old who are interested in the life story of criminals who are as extraordinary as “Bronson”. The way that independent and Mainstream films are promoted is also very different Mainstream film will spend a huge amount of there budget on advertising as they want to reach as many people as possible and get a huge audience they will put numerous ads on TV on websites in magazines, poster and many other ways of promoting there film. Where as independent film will do very little in advertising they will only usually posted on websites and usually not there own one and may get a small article on there film in a magazine although there are many magazines that specialize in independent films and most of there promotion will be through this. Mainstream will also use billboards which will be very large and in places where many people pass by.

The Difference between Mainstream and independent film In mainstream films they usually use very big stars of films for example Samuel Jackson and they use these actors to promote there films as a lot of people love these actors because of there past films and will watch these film purely for this and not the storyboard where as in independent films the people starring in the film are not very well known and is more about the narrative and the way that the film is stylized. Although some independent films have boosted actors or directors reputation and caused them to cross over from independent to mainstream films. The special effects in Mainstream take a lot of Budget up for example in the film Transformer they used a lot of special effects for the transformer and the actors and the special effects was the main selling point of the film. And they have a lot more people working on the special effects in the Mainstream films than in the independent films. In Independent films would have probably about 4 editor someone for the titles and someone for the clips and other for the effects where as in Mainstream films they would have a team of people editing on each scene. This is why Mainstream will be more visually pleasing in terms of effects than independent film. In Mainstream films are usually made for money and are profit making films and are more made as a business venture than about the creativity of a the film a good example of a film that has done this is the film “Taken 2” which as made a film which is almost exactly the same as “Taken "where as in independent film they are not made for money but more for the love of film and usually don’t even make enough to start making a profit. And get very little viewings.

Where we would show it Our Thriller would go into the nomination category of best new Independent thriller of the year. This would show viewing of our film for free as its an non profit film. We would also show our film at a non mainstream cinema for example at the juke of York. As we would want our film to be at a stylish place and at a place where many independent films are shot.
