4 Students will investigate the Declaration of Independence Students will role play the writing and signing of the Declaration of Independence Read and research the history of the bald Eagle Create a timeline of when the states entered the union. Field trip to the Ohio State Capital Building

7 Students will be able to identify where each state is located on a map Students will play the computer game the Oregon Trail. As a class we will make a model of our community. Research helpers in our community. Field trip to Sun-Watch Indian Village.

10 III. World Interactions Students will map a trip across the U.S.A including 5 different places to visit. Students will identify the Continent, Country, State and City they live in. Students will write to pen pals in other countries. Students will participate in a game to test their knowledge about the world. Students will work in pairs with the Odyssey Globe.

13 IV. Citizenship Rights & Responsibilities Students will summarize a television news broadcast. Students will create posters encouraging adults to vote. Students will participate in a school wide beautification project. Students will research facts on a current news article. Students will take part in creating classroom rules.

16 V. Democratic Processes Look at current newspaper and examine the current issues. Guest speaker- Local police sheriff. Conduct a mock trial Students will organize a school wide community bulletin board and gather information to place on it. Students will take a field trip to the local park and clean up litter.

Decision Making & Resources Students will learn about the Natural Resources of different regions of the U.S. Students will itemize the cost of food across the U.S. Students will learn the importance of voting. Learn the importance of different currency for different countries. Students will decide on a way to earn money for a new class pet.

22 VII. Science, Technology & Society Students will use the internet to research state facts. Students will use internet map games to help them locate the fifty states. Students will view the video Reading Rainbow My America: A Poetry Atlas of The United States Each student will pick a different person in society to interview. Students will visit a nature reserve in the community.
