Magazine Project Photoshop

You are a graphic designer Your mission is to design a Magazine cover and an Advertisement for the back cover You must follow all the requirements from your clients (Ms. Carrera and the Dade County Youth Fair) You will be paid with grades and maybe with prizes, tickets and trophies from the Dade County Youth Fair

Requirements for Front Cover  Original fictional title on top –large, special, unique typeface, do not repeat this typeface on any other part of the cover.  Main Story-much larger than others  Main Image-bleeds on all sides (touches all sides of the cover)  2-3 secondary stories-smaller than main story, not as special  At least one more photo for one of the secondary stories  Barcode (copy one from Google, it must be black and white)  Date (Just the Month and year)  Volume  Issue  Price (US and CANADA price) Invent the last four: for example: Volume 1, Issue 8, November 2011 US $12 CAN $14

Theme: Check at the fair website, it changes every year Check at the fair website, it changes every year It must have at least 3 stories The stories can be about any subject matter as long as it is related to the theme Keep reading this Powerpoint but: GET A PLANNING HANDOUT from the front of the room, fill it in and turn it in later for a grade Before you start research your subject

Relate it to the theme RESEARCH No matter what your stories are about; aliens, fashion, sports… - relate them to the theme somehow. Use the names of specific countries, cities, buildings, rivers, deserts, mountains… that are reacted to the theme

Magazine Title Must be a different typeface than anything else on the cover Must be really large At least the first word must be seen on the top 2 inches of the cover – because many times they are overlapped in the store displays

Magazine title Often in real magazines the photo overlaps the title Do this to make your magazine look more real (ask me how) But make sure the title is still readable…your magazine is not famous yet.

Main Story and Main Photo Your main story should be much larger than the other stories-see sample on right The main story goes together with the main photo The main photo must be a full bleed Full Bleed: image touches the 4 sides of the page Main Story Secondary Stories

Secondary Stories and Photo(s) You need at least 2 more stories These should be much smaller than the main story You need at least one INSET photo to go with one of the secondary stories INSET PHOTO: a smaller photo on top of a much larger photo He is the Main (Full Bleed) Photo This is the Inset Photo

Barcode Place it in a corner- straight or sideways Must be black and white Should be small Just search for “barcode” in Google and Right Click>Copy Edit>Paste in Photoshop

Volume, Issue, Price Just make these up Example: vol 1, issue 2, Price must be US and Canada and must have dollar signs $$$ Follow this FORMAT: US $12 CAN $14 (No, I did not check the $ exchange rate, you can if you are OCD, nobody is going to check it) The price should be very small, and not special many times all these are placed by the barcode zoom in to see

Requirements for Back Cover Must be an Ad or advertisement for a Travel destination in North America You can use a real transportation or hotel company and their logo You cannot copy an ad and paste it. You must copy individual photos, logos, etc. and create your own original advertisement.

Back Cover Ad must Include: Slogan Product Picture Fake Company name Fake Company Logo Fake Contact information: –could be a fake website address

a logo You can create an original logo for your company or use a real logo. A logo is an easily identifiable symbol or other small design adopted by an organization to identify its products, uniform, vehicles, etc For example:

a slogan A slogan is a catchy phrase to make a product memorable Can you remember the products for these slogans: (answers in next slide) –It’s finger lickin’ good! –American by birth, rebel by choice –Save money, live better –Eat Fresh –Maybe she's born with it. Maybe it's _____

slogans Answers to slogans from previous page: –KFC –Harley Davidson –Walmart –Subway –Maybelline slogan must be short and catchy
