Christianity 101 Basic Beliefs of the Faith Session 2

What comes to your mind when you hear the following name? Ghandi What makes Jesus different from all the others? Buddha Muhammad Jesus

Jesus was born in Bethlehem to the Virgin Mary. He was fully human and fully divine. We call this the Incarnation. (Matthew 1:18-24)

Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist. (Luke 3:21-22)

Jesus’ public ministry lasted three years. His ministry included preaching, healing, miracles, and teaching. (This is recorded in the four Gospels.)

Jesus was crucified for our sins and buried in a tomb. Through His death, we can receive forgiveness of our sins. (Mark 15:21-40)

Jesus was raised from the dead by God and appeared to the disciples and others. (Mark 16:19; Luke 24:51; John 20:17)

Jesus ascended to heaven. (Acts 1:6-10) Jesus will come again. (Revelation 22:12-16)

Born of a virgin Isaiah 7:14 Fully human and fully divine John 1:14; 1 Timothy 2:5 Atonement Hebrews 9:27-28 Resurrection 1 Peter 1:3

Does it matter what we believe about Jesus? How does our belief about Jesus affect our everyday lives? What should our response be to others who may have a different view of Jesus?

A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic on the level with a man who says he is a poached egg or he would be the devil of hell. You must take your choice. Either this was, and is, the Son of God or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. C. S. Lewis
