The taboos in Chinese culture Han-Chun Liu 5th grade Class 12, Dong-Men Elementary School, Taipei, Taiwan

Hi, it’s really nice to meet you!

We are the 5th grade Class 12, Dong Men Elementary School, Taipei, Taiwan

The taboos in Chinese culture 1.Many taboos in Taiwan have something to do with similar Chinese sounding words. 2.Nowadays, young people and those living in larger cities no longer adhere these taboos as much. 3.But it is better to follow the rules just in case.

The taboos in general Death is a taboo subject. Avoid the number “4”. Traditionally, the color “white” and “black” are not proper colors for a joyful, formal occasion. The color “red” comes with happy events.

The taboos in giving gifts Some objects shouldn't be given to others, often because the word for that object sounds like another unfortunate word: Clocks Umbrellas Handkerchiefs Scissors Hand towels Fans

The taboos when eating 1.Do not leave your chopsticks in a standing position in your bowl. 2.Do not tap your bowl with chopsticks. 3.Finish everything in your bowl.

The taboos during Chinese New Year 1.The cry of a child is avoided. 2.No one should eat congee (a type of rice porridge). 3.A visit to the hospital during this period is avoided. 4.Trash shouldn’t be taken out of the house until the sixth day of Chinese New Year.

The taboos about ghosts 1.The period between July 1st and July 15th in the Lunar Calendar is considered the "Ghost Month“. 2.Do not whistle or ring a bell at night. 3.Do not open an umbrella indoors.

There are more taboos in Chinese culture, we would like to share them with you in our video conference. There are more taboos in Chinese culture, we would like to share them with you in our video conference.
