EQ: What are the characteristics of Place? 9/8 and 9/9

What title would you give this picture ? Explain why.

Place: A unique location  Place can be described in 5 ways

1. Place Name  Toponym: name give to a place on earth  Longest name of a place: Chargoggagoggmanchauggag oggchaubunagungamaugg

2. Absolute Location  Exact location such as an address or Latitude/longitude coordinates  EX: 50N, 75E  5015 S. Blackstone

3. Situation (relative location)  Location of a place relative to other locations  Kenwood is east of the lake

 Physical characteristics of a place  Climate, water, topography, soil, vegetation, elevation 4. Site

Human Characteristics  Characteristics about the people  Language, culture, population, tourism, economy, religion, government etc.

Reading: Focus on meaning of words and visualization  Read and talk to the text-use your reading bookmark for sentence stem suggestions. You should not just draw symbols of write “OMG”. Need to explain your thoughts as you are reading  Think about the characteristics of “place” for Buenos Aires

Group Picture and gallery walk  Every group will use the descriptive vocabulary in the reading and draw a picture of how they visualize Buenos Aires.
