What are some facts about colorblindness? How do I know if I have it? What are the chances of my child being color blind? What are the risks and what is the prevalence? Are there any specific treatments for this? Did anyone do anything to help this people? Table of contents SOURCES

Some facts about color blindness Color blindness reduces the ability to distinguish between certain shades of color. It is passed on through heredity Difficulty in differentiating shades or a color from the same color itself from other ones. Being male means you are more susceptible to it. It is a gene mutation which means it occurs to one specific sex than the other. Color blindness reduces the ability to distinguish between certain shades of color. It is a gene mutation which means it occurs to one specific sex than the other. Click here for more specific details Back to table of contents

Specific Details It is a X-linked trait which means that the X chromosome is the one that carries the trait Color blindness is autosomal recessive meaning it would need to be homozygous recessive for it to occur. Since it is linked with the X sex chromosome it means that men are more susceptible since men only have 1 X gene therefore there is only a need for 1 for it to occur in males. The trait affects the three cones in the eye that allow you to see colors. They let us see red, green and blue. When you are color blind you actually lose one of these cones. Back to table of contents A more scientific approach

A more Scientific approach Cross between a Woman carrier (X^N X^n) of the trait with a normal male (X^N Y) X^NX^n X^NX^N X^N X^n YX^N YX^n Y Back to table of contents Woman carrier Affected male

Risk factors and Prevalence Being a male means a higher risk of getting this trait An eye related disease or conditions gives a higher risk Intaking drugs like hydroxycholorine Having head injuries, nerve damage and strokes RisksRisks PrevalencePrevalence Found mostly in men Rarely affects women Women are just usually carriers of the trait 1:10 Caucasian males suffer from this Back to table of contents

Symptoms and effects Back to table of contents May not be able to, or have difficulty in distinguishing different shades of red and green, blue and yellow, or even any other color. Children have low tolerance for bright light and poor vision. Can be diagnosed by wrongly reading the number in the test. Click here to take the test
