Why do I need Geography? Globalization has made the ability of people, goods and ideas to move around the world faster than ever in human history. This class will teach about other people in the world and why they live and think like they do. Examples of “globalization.”

Where are most products in a Wal-Mart store manufactured?

Wal-Mart's Worldwide Locations

Why are things less expensive at Wal-Mart than the Mall? WHY?

Where does Cy-Fair ISD rank in size in Texas and the USA?

Which country has the most tornadoes?

Why are there polar bears at the North Pole and Penguins at the South Pole? But no penguins at the North Pole. And no polar bears at the South Pole.

If your class of 25 represented the world>>>>>>>>> 14 would be Asian

If your class of 25 represented the world>>>>>>>>> Five would be European Five would be European.

If your class of 25 represented the world>>>>>>>>> Two would be African

If your class of 25 represented the world>>>>>>>>> Two would be South American

If your class of 25 represented the world>>>>>>>>> One would be North American

Beginning our journey around, we begin by studying the world and the people in it. There are certain features that are common to us all, but depending on your Geography, are so very different.

We begin by studying the Geography of?

Uzbekistan

MaliBhutan

Some 80% of China’s public toilets are “squat” toilets, preferred by most Chinese. During the Olympics, with so many Westerners in Beijing, the government attempting to move people into the typical “throne” toilet of the West.

“Modern” squat toilet in East Asia.

Instructions for “Westerners”

In the developed (rich) world, form can be more important than function.

What would the modern version of the “outhouse” be called?

What does this metaphor tell you? (measure your words carefully)

The European concept of modern, pay toilets, makes it was to America.

In World Geography, we will learn how population numbers affect you and the world now, and in the future. Resources: Migration: Distribution and Consumption Who is moving where & why? What is wealth? Who is getting richer? Poorer? Environmental destruction.Do we care?

Most of All, Geography Should Be Fun!

Remember
