Massachusetts Traffic Records Analysis Center (MassTRAC) Barbara Rizzuti, Program Coordinator, Highway Safety Division, Executive Office of Public Safety and Security January 11, 2011
Introduction Motor vehicle crashes are the cause of approximately 425 deaths and 4,500 serious injuries in Massachusetts each year. These crashes cost Massachusetts approximately $6.3 billion annually.
Our Mission Reduce fatalities, injuries and economic losses resulting from crashes through the analysis of traffic records data for problem identification, countermeasures selection, project evaluation and performance measurement.
MassTRAC-What is it? The Massachusetts Traffic Records Analysis Center (MassTRAC) provides users with the ability to: Perform key spatial and statistical analytic functions using crash, person and vehicle data. Create map-based displays and perform spatial queries of crash locations. Evaluate crash data and relate it to underlying road network characteristics. Generate statistical summaries and tabulations of crash, person and vehicle characteristics. Generate standard reports to be used in the development of various highway safety plans.
Data Sources MassTRAC integrates data from a number of different sources: Crash data (details, people, vehicles) from the Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) Citation and violation data from the Merit Rating Board and the RMV Geographic information systems from MassGIS and ESRI Demographics from the US Census
