Year 9 Revision Part Four

A Catholic priest and all monks and nuns are not supposed to have sex and that is called living a celibate life.

It is important to know how to use a condom properly

SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTIONS what are they? Why are they serious?

Sexually Transmitted Infections commonly called STIs they can be treated. But if you do nothing about an infection it can be serious.

These are the parts of the body that they can infect.

Here is an example of someone who has left his symptoms to get much worse.

What are STIs How can you become infected?

Sexually Transmitted Infections Do you know the name of the most common STI?

The most common STI is called CHLAMYDIA. It is suggested that many people have this and do not know it. It is no symptoms. (Often if people are infected it shows in specific symptoms. Chlamydia is different. It can make a girl sterile.

There is an STI that produces growths on the end of the penis or vagina. Do you know what this is called?

It is called genital warts.

There are lots of other sexually transmitted infections. If you want to know more visit homeoworknow.com see the section on Relationships all years.

Women and men can get an infection of the bladder called cystitis. This is painful but it is not an STI.

The bladder will become infected and this means that it will be painful to urinate.

YOU ARE ABOUT TO SEE A CONSEQUENCE OF AIDS

AIDS orphans

One of the most serious STI infections is called AIDS. You need to know how HIV/AIDS can be passed from one person to another. In a mothers breast milk. From sperm or vaginal fluid to a partner during sex. From sharing needles. Any blood that is exchanged during sexual activity, can lead to infection.

There is no cure for AIDS

This little rubber sheath worn on the penis can save lives.

People should be encouraged to wear a condom. It will stop you getting pregnant and prevent you getting an STI.

HIV/ AIDS can attack the immune system and break down the bodies way to fight infections.

This is a foetus. This is an unborn child.

Today it is thought that the developing foetus is quite advanced at 20 weeks growth.
