Paulo Freire ( ) Brazilian Educator ; Student’s Culture , Language Observation ; Accused of Communism during the Brazilian Coup d’etat (1964) Exile – Book: Pedagogy of the Oppressed ( 1968 );

Paulo Freire Contributions to Education Oppressed : Understand the world around themselves in order to change their reality; Awareness ( Conscientização); Banking Model of Education; Introduction of dialogue in the classroom; Dialogue between teacher and student Reading the world always precedes reading the word; ( Students experience society before school ) Humanization ( Humanização ) Human life has meaning only from the relentless pursuit of liberation from everything that dehumanizes us.

The Paulo Freire Method Originally an adult education method; 1962: taught reading/writing for 300 sugar-cane workers in 45 days without using textbooks; 3 steps method: 1.Aquaintance with the students’ previous knowledge ; 2.Social analysis of the words and themes – from common sense to a critical view ; 3.Challenge the students to go beyond the simple, non-critical view of the world.
