CATAPULTS

Purpose the reason I am doing this project is: To see how far the egg goes when launching it with a catapult we designed.

the hypothesis I think that: Our catapult will go the furthest. Why? Because the catapult is sturdy with a lots of popsicle sticks and its flexible with a plastic spoon and rubber bands making the egg fly far.

My materials list: Tape 73 popsicle sticks 1 spoon 3 rubber bands Hot glue 1 cup 1egg 2 wooden sticks Tape measure

The procedure: How we build the base Step 1- First we build the base with popsicle sticks. N Next we build the base like the top of a deck and we used 19 popsicle sticks right next to each other. There about five to six popsicle sticks between the bottom and top of the base. We knocked out a piece in the middle of the base with scissors to put the spoon in. How we build the catapult Step 2- First we built the catapult next we started out with the bottom like a house (a square) Then there's a v shape in the middle of the square with two popsicle sticks that stand up right in front of the square. We put wooden sticks behind for protection to keep it from falling down. There's two popsicle sticks that are shaped like a x in front of the two popsicle sticks that are standing up. There's tape and rubber bands to keep that to stand up. Now to the spoon there a popsicle stick behind it with a rubber band to hold those together the reason. We did that is for the spoon to be thicker so it flings farther. We sat the spoon in a hole in the base so we can stick the spoon in there with tape and hot glue then we put 3 rubber bands to sling it back. Step 3- Put the egg on the spoon and launch the egg. Measure how far the egg when. Repeat step 3 two more times

Results:

My conclusions: What worked in our catapult: The rubber bands worked cause that’s what held the spoon in place. What didn’t work in our catapult: Our fulcrum in front of the spoon caused it to fall apart. What would I do next time: I would make it a bigger catapult with real wood not popsicle sticks. Was our hypotheses right: out hypothesis was not correct.
