Dagmar Lieblova 4 th Hour

Introduction Dagmar Liblova was born in 1929 in Kutna Hora, Czechoslovakia (now called the Czech Republic). While she was growing up, she had a good life and lived in beautiful Kutna Hora. Her life however, drastically changed for the bad in March of 1939 when the Germans invaded and took over her country.

Political/Government During 1929, Czechoslovakia was under Communist control. Klement Gottwald was the leader of the Czechoslovak Communist Party in 1929 and was the president of the republic from

Political/Government The flag of Czechoslovakia is quite similar to the flag of Poland. The arms are white over red like the Polish flag, but the hoist has a blue triangle.

Religion Dagmar’s family is of the Jewish religion. Her grandparents on her fathers side were very devout in their religion, but they didn’t pass down or stress the importance of it to their children. Her mother’s parents were very religious as well and Dagmar’s mother was raised to be religious but she didn’t raise her children to be devout.

The Economy The Czech Republics currency is called the Czech crown (it used to be known as the koruna). Although being a part of the UK, the euro isn’t accepted widely, but some restaurants and hotels accept the euro but the exchange rate isn’t good. 5 USD = CZK (1 USD = CZK)

Education Dagmar went to school until the Germans invaded when she was 10. After the British army liberated her and the other Jews, she went back to school and finished her high school years. She then received a full disability pension and attended the Arts Faculty of Charles University in Prague where she studied German, Czech, and met her future husband, Petr Liebl.

Present Day Dagmar Today, Dagmar is an advocate for Holocaust survivors. Not only does she go to various places telling her story of being taken to different camps, but she is also the chairperson of the Terezin Initiative. Dagmar takes pride in being a survivor and she has told many students about the torture and pain she went through in her teenage years.
