Concentration Camp: Chelmno By: Deep Sihota

  This was one of the many extermination camps for the Jewish people.  Camp started operating on December , and ended January 1945(The camp did stop for a bit up until 1942, then started operating again to get rid of the polish) Introduction

  This camp was located in central Poland, approximately 30 miles northwest of Lodz.  This camp was also referred to as Kulmhof  This was the first camp that included using gas as a killing tactic. Continued

  145,000 people died from phase one.  88 children were killed  Approximately 150, ,000 were killed(mainly Jews)  There was a nearby forest camp where the dead bodies were buried. Casualties

  Hitler’s/Nazis main target was the Jews.  This camp had three trucks/vans used for mass killing it released gas in the rear compartment.  The “Sonderkommando” were responsible for setting up these trucks/vans. Who/What

  When people were stripped naked and sent to the gas trucks in about 6 minutes they would all suffocate and then they were dumped at the forest camp.  Gypsies were also another target. Continued

At this camp everyone was treated equally.(horribly) However a few did manage to escape.  The ultimate purpose for this camp was to exterminate the Jews from the Warthegau Survivors
