By: Sydney Waldman and Laura Rook Religion Differences

 Belief that Allah is the only God and that Mahammad was his messenger or prophet. Differences- We have almost the same belief about a different person. Only Jesus is the Son of God too, not only the messenger.

DDaily Prayer which you have to do 5 times per day (morning, noon, afternoon, sunset, and evening.) Similarities- We also pray in the morning, the evening, and before we eat or sunset time. Plus we pray in church. Differences- We have different styles in praying. Some people fold their hands, some close their eyes, and others kneel.

3 rd Pillar  Fasting from dawn till sun down during the month of Ramadan. (no food, drinks, or drugs) Similarities- We have to fast between meals on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. We also have to fast during Lent on Friday because we are not allowed to eat meat on Friday. Differences- We don’t fast everyday for a whole month.

4 th Pillar Almsgiving- Giving to Muslims in need. Similarities- We give to charities through fundraisers. Also we give money during church. We are supposed to give at most 10% of your pay check. It’s not required, but they would like it if you did. Differences- We don’t call it almsgiving because Muslims aren’t the only ones that we give to.

5 th Pillar Hajj- Pilgrimage to Islamic holy sights, especially Mecca. Similarities- We also have a place where we can go, the Vatican. This is the Pope’s house in Italy. Differences- This is not a required rule for the Catholic religion, like it is for the Muslims.

 The Islamic and Catholic religion have similar things and different things. I know that the Catholic religion is strict but not as strict as the Islamic religion. They have rules that they need to follow. If they don’t they will get in trouble in certain countries. But Catholics have rules but if we don’t follow them exactly, we won’t get in trouble. That’s the similarities and differences between our two religions.
