What Muslims believes in The Five Pillars of Faith  One: The profession of Faith.  One god named Allah  Two: The five Daily Prayers  Three: Paying Zakat  A tithing or tax to help the needy.  2.5%  Four: Fast during the holy month of Ramadan  Nothing from dawn to sunset  Five: Make a Pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in a life time if possible. There is also one more and it is Jihad. It is to defend Islam. This is the foundation of Islam.

The Kabba

Grand Mosque of Mecca The Grand Mosque in Mecca is very sacred to the people of the Islamic faith. Millions of Muslims make the journey to Mecca every year. Mecca is in Saudi Arabia. The Grand Mosque is made entirely of Marble.

Mecca The prophet Muhammad was born in Mecca. It is the holiest city in the Islamic faith. Non-Muslims are prohibited from entering the holy city. At least one pilgrimage to Mecca is required by all Muslims.  This is one of the five pillars of faith

Mosques Muslims will go to mosques to pray to Allah. It is better to pray together and it is more pleasing to Allah (God) according to their beliefs. There are about 2.5 million mosques world wide. During the month of Ramadan, mosques will hold dinners after sunset and will provide the fourth required prayer of the day.

Minarets Minarets are the tall spires that surround the mosques. A man stands inside the tower and does a yodel to call the people to prayer. They are also used as a natural ventilation system for the dome.

The Ka’aba The Ka’aba is a holiest sight in Mecca. Muslims face the Ka’aba when they pray. It is cubic and made of black stone. It has been reconstructed many different times.

Symbols of Islam The Crescent moon and the five pointed star is the most famous and widely used symbol in the Islamic faith. The Crescent Moon sits on top of the Mosques. It represents the light and knowledge in Islam The crescent moon and star is featured in many different countries’ flags, such as: Turkey, Pakistan, Algeria, Malaysia, and Mauritania.
