2 Digital Library Services we need/would like to offer Need Comprehensive, seamless discovery and viewing of all digital items a customer is permitted to access. Across BL and other collections In BL reading rooms and over the Internet Sharing digital legal deposit content with other legal deposit libraries. Long-term preservation of all items deposited. Submission/deposit system with content validation. Content harvesting Would Like Host and preserve content for others. Provide value-added tools to help customers explore BL and other collections.

3 Digital Library Content Streams E-journals (Document Delivery & Legal Deposit Pilot) Digitisation products (~20M Images) Web archives (Initial Collection of 1,000 Sites) Hand-held (CD-ROM, DVD, &etc) Sound Digital Maps, eNewspapers, eBooks, &etc….

4 Digital Library Mission and Vision Our mission is to enable the United Kingdom to preserve and use its digital output forever Our vision is to create a management system for digital objects that will: store and preserve any type of digital material in perpetuity provide access to this material to users with appropriate permissions ensure that the material is easy to find ensure that users can view the material with contemporary applications ensure that users can, where possible, experience material with the original look-and-feel We are building a system to handle Legal Deposit and non-Legal Deposit materials to share Legal Deposit content with other Legal Deposit Libraries
