Others First ► Jesus’ example (Philippians 2:4) ► Makes for unity (1 Corinthians 1:10) ► An unwillingness to get along
Put Brakes on The Tongue ► Say less than you are thinking Often say too much (Proverbs 10:19) “Full of words” (Ecclesiastes 10:14, 20) ► Slow to speak Listen more (James 1:19) Words cannot be recalled
Cultivate A Low Persuasive Voice ► How we say something is important A soft answer (Proverbs 15:1, 2) How to answer (Proverbs 15:28) ► Notice Gideon Ephraim was not included in battle (Judges 7:24-8:3) He praised them and anger ceased
Praise Good Work That Is Done ► Do not be envious of another All but one church praised (Revelation 2, 3) Can we not do the same? ► A kind word helps the receiver Makes a heart glad (Proverbs 12:25; 15:23) Could the problem be jealousy?
Be Interested In Others ► Been in a one-sided conversation? Why some people talk all the time No interest in others (Romans 12:16) ► Don’t brag about yourself Let others praise you (Matthew 23:12; 2 Timothy 3:2) Don’t “toot your horn” (Matthew 5:16; Galatians 6:9)
Be Cheerful ► Keep the corners “turned up” Disappointments and heartaches Don’t “cheer up” others with problems ► Should have a positive effect Face reveals what is in the heart (Nehemiah 2:1-3) Be cheerful; trust in the Lord (Proverbs 15:13; 16:20; 27:17)
Pay No Attention To Gossip ► Some things are better if left alone Don’t believe everything (Ecclesiastes 7:20-22) Gossip is sinful (2 Timothy 3:3) ► Harm done by an unruly tongue Cannot be tamed (James 3:8) Say things which build up (Ephesians 4:29)
