Vile volcanoes This is a map of Pompeii's famous volcano called Mount Vesuvius. This is a diagram of a volcano. How many volcanoes are there in the world? There are around 1510 'active' volcanoes in the world. We currently know of 80 or more which are under the oceans.

Disaster strikes in Pompeii Unfortunately there was an explosion in Pompeii. It was a disaster; there was poisonous gases, black clouds as if it was going to rain, smoke, rocks which are metamorphic and igneous. Also there was what you call preserved bodies.

Popping Pacific What is the Ring of Fire? Did you know: Over half of the world’s volcanoes arise in a belt around the Pacific Ocean called the Ring of Fire; There are 452 volcanoes in the Ring of Fire; About 90% of the world's earthquakes and 89% of the world's largest earthquakes occur along the Ring of Fire.

The 10 most active volcanoes
