 For many of you… that answer is YES!! GOOD WORK!!!  If you are done… make sure your senior social studies teacher has your log sheet and an artifact to show what you did...  This artifact can be a picture, a written reflection by you, information about the place you volunteered at (i.e. a brochure) etc.  Then, your teacher can CHECK you off in their LIFE hours Binder and you are DONE!

 You need to figure out what you are planning on doing to finish your hours TODAY!!!  Here are some options of events coming up that you can volunteer for…

 Offered a few Saturdays and Sundays of each month  Meets at Busse Woods  Great if you like the out doors  You can sign up for one or several of these days  See Mrs. Guthrie to get dates and sign up!

 Help run children’s Programs at the Palatine Opportunity Center on your days off school  President’s day and Spring Break days from 8-12  Spaces are limited so sign up with Mrs. Guthrie TODAY!

 Attend 4 winter sporting events with an elementary or middle school student from the area to earn 10 hours of credit!  Be a Mentor to this students and encourage them to get involved in their school and their community!  Sign up starts March 14 th - applications on the LIFE hours board outside the social studies office!  Turn in Applications to Mrs. Guthrie by March 18 th  First Winter event April 5 th

 WHAT: Help organize and work at the care center distributing food and clothes to those in need.  WHEN: Wednesday evening 6-8:30  You can sign up for multiple dates to earn more hours!  See Mrs. Guthrie to sign up

 Palatine Opportunity Center Childcare  What: Help watch and work with children ages 3-12  When: Flexible days… schedule set up with POC coordinator  Up to 20 hours!  See Mrs. Guthrie to Sign up!

Encourage students to stay on task and help them with their homework!  When? Mondays & Tuesdays  Time? From 3:45-5:15  Where? Edgebrooke (in the Green Lane Apartments)  See Mrs. Guthrie to sign up!

 Go see Mrs. Guthrie before school, during 1 st, 5 th, or 7 th hour in the social studies office  Find out what materials you need and learn how to make hats  Make hats on your own time and turn them in to be donated to earn LIFE hours

 We are looking for a group of students to create and run a mini I-Compete program in the arts  You would meet with Mrs. Guthrie to create the hours and choose the dates  You would create and run the program!  Earn up to 20 hours of service for this project!

 Help run the VIP craft fair bake sale!  March 12 th › Shifts from 9am-1pm and 1pm-5pm  Only 2 spots for volunteers at each shift!!  See Mrs. Guthrie to sign up

 They are DUE to your Senior Social Studies Teacher May 6 th (the midterm point of 4 th quarter)  If you have a different contact or a different place you would like to volunteer that is ok, you just need to get your log signed and get an artifact

 Remember what does NOT COUNT: › (as referenced in your handout at the beginning of the year) › Chores for family, friends or neighbors › Teaching religion at a religious institution › Interning or being a slave for a teacher › Any work you are required to do as part of a club, sport, or court mandated service › Anything you get paid for › ONLY 10 hours can be done for events that are here at Palatine High School for Palatine High School students

 Your letter grade for 4 th quarter drops one grade  AND… you have to take the final exam in your Social Studies Class!! =(
