A story It was a quiet and cloudy afternoon and I was sitting across the room from the window of my office, working on the computer. I was writing a report to give to my boss the next day. As I was thinking about what to write next, I heard a sudden rumble of thunder in the distance. I got up to close the window and as I was walking over to the window, there was a big flash of lightning somewhere outside near our building. I saw everyone jump a little and a few people were walking over to look out to see the rain. The rain was falling from the sky in big drops and the drops were quickly becoming round, hard balls of ice. We heard loud noises on the roof.

Just as I was closing the window, I heard a sudden, sharp crack. Someone was throwing a baseball through the window! I was just reaching out to close the window when the ball landed in my hands. I caught the ball, but it was very cold. I was brushing window glass off my shirt when I saw that this was no ordinary baseball — it was an enormous ball of hail! My co-workers were running over to help me and they couldn't believe it! We were lucky. No one was hurt. After we cleaned up the glass, we decided to keep the ball in the refrigerator for a while. For a few days, people were always coming over to our office to look at the ball. The ball was slowly melting, but I remember thinking that my memory of this baseball will never go away.

Assignment 1. Retell the sotry about the ball of hail in your own words. 2. Describe a lucky day to your partner, tell him/her why you think it's a lucky day and how you feel about it.
