Working After Your Studies Post Study Work Lisa Rose Moller Dean of Students Office

Post Study Work (PSW) Work in the UK for up to 2 years Can apply within 1 year from completing your course Can apply in the UK Only before your current visa expires Can apply in your home country PBS = Points Based System PSW is not guaranteed and you must meet all requirements and claim all points

Post Study Work How do I qualify? Qualifications, you must have been awarded: Bachelors Degree Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma in Education Masters Degree PhD Degree Current entry clearance or leave as a student and make your application within 12 months of completing the qualification.

Post Study Work How to calculate your points The Home Office requires your application to score points. To qualify for the scheme you must score 95 points in total. You should complete the online self- assessment at: This will tell you whether or not you can apply for the scheme.

Post Study Work Working out your points 75 points will be awarded for having completed a degree at a UK university 20 points for degree 20 points for a UK institution with a Tier 4 sponsor licence 20 points for current immigration status as a student 15 points for applying within 1 year 10 points will be awarded for English language (you have this automatically if you have 75 points in attributes) 10 points for meeting the maintenance (funds) requirements.

Post Study Work Maintenance / Living Costs If you are applying from within the UK, you will need to have at least £800 in your account for the 3 months immediately prior to applying. If you are applying from outside the UK you will need at least £2,800 in your account for 3 months before you make your application. Your bank statement or bank letter cannot be more than 1 month old You must not drop below the required amount!

Post Study Work When should I apply? After you have your degree certificate or have written confirmation you have successfully completed your course with your final transcripts and marks statement. Any time in the 12 months following the completion of your course. If you apply from within the UK, your application must be sent before your current visa expires.

Post Study Work How do I apply? If you are applying from within the UK, you will need to complete the Tier 1 (Post Study Work) form available from: /tier1/poststudy/applying/applicationform The current fee is £500 – postal or £700 for premium service If you are applying from outside the UK, you will need to contact the British Consulate or Embassy in your home country for details on applying for entry clearance under the Post Study Work Scheme.

Post Study Work Preparing your application Make sure you have funds in your bank account for 3 months Prepare your application at least 5 weeks before your visa expires Make sure it is the most recent version of the application form Complete the correct form carefully in black ink Collect all of the required documents Send your application by Special Delivery to the address on the front of the form

Post Study Work What documents will I need? Passport (with your current student visa) UK ID Card for Foreign Nationals (only if you have one) Your degree certificate (if you have one) or Letter confirming you have successfully completed your course Final Transcripts Final Marks Statement (these 3 should come together) A letter from your Faculty/School Teaching Office confirming your marks and the start and finish dates of your course A letter from your sponsor (if you are or have been sponsored) giving consent for you to remain in the UK under this scheme Three months bank statements 2 Passport sized photographs Application fee

Post Study Work What about my dependants? If your family are with you in the UK, they can apply to stay in the UK with you as Tier 1 (PSW) dependants. Each family member will have to submit a PBS (Dependant) application form. If they apply at the same time as you, your dependants application fee will be £50 per person. You should make sure that all applications are posted together in the same envelope so that it is clear that they should be processed together. The PBS (Dependant) form can be downloaded from 1/poststudy/dependantapplications 1/poststudy/dependantapplications

Post Study Work What about my dependants maintenance? You will need to show that there are sufficient funds available to support your dependants while they are with you in the UK. If you are applying from within the UK, you must have at least £533 in savings for each dependant for 3 months before you make your application (in addition to £800 for the main applicant).

Post Study Work Example of maintenance requirements Yourself and 2 dependants need: £800 – for your maintenance £533 – for each dependant £800 + £533 + £533 = £1866 You must have the total amount for 3 months without falling below.
