What is Community Chef Aim: The project is intended to help improve the local population's nutrition and cookery skills while promoting a sustainable food system which provides good food for all. The Community Chef offers community food consultancy, cookery training, cookery classes, cookery workshops, bread making workshops and cookery demonstrations in a variety of settings, working with local families.

Why the Community Chef The Gravesham health profile has indicated that obesity in young people is an increasing issue. The percentage of children who are at an unhealthy weight has risen in the last 3 years by 2.1% with currently 21.2% of children in Gravesham year 6 classified as obese which is 2.3% higher than the national average of 18.9%

Outcomes

Community Chef Grand Youth service Outcomes 8 young people aged completed 6 weeks of cooking courses. 16 young people passed a food hygiene course. Starting the 1 st October 2014 The Grand youth service will be working with 8 young people per course for 7 weeks at a time. targeting 64 students in year 6 at holy trinity school in coincidence with the national child measurement programme.
