Home and building automation in a mixed-use building Ho-Jin Park ETRI, Korea ISO/IEC JTC1/SC25/WG1-N1535

Contents 1.Introduction 2.Scope 3.Proposals for upgrade to IS

Introduction This document, ISO/IEC TR , is issued in the type 2 technical report series of publications as a prospective standard for provisional application in the field of the Home Electronic System (HES) –type 2, when the subject is still under technical development or where, for any other reason, there is the future but not immediate possibility of an agreement on an International Standard This contribution proposes comments on the content of this document for upgrade to IS; –Adds information of its use in practice –Adds ‘Conformance’ Clause

Scope of ISO/IEC TR This technical report explores the similarities and differences between home and building control systems –to accommodate both home and building automation in a mixed-use building –Some systems are applicable to the whole building versus the systems which are applicable to individual apartments and offices only. In some cases these systems need to interact. A logical model for linking building and home control systems is specified. –The option of managing an application domain with a Single Application Controller versus a Fully Distributed System is considered. Methods for overall building management of the HES architecture are presented. –A method for implementing agreements between building managers and tenants regarding user access to and control of applications via a firewall is specified.

Proposal #1 for upgrade to IS New use cases for home & building automation –Use case 1 : Elevator stop control A building tenant requests an elevator to stop on the tenant’s floor inside the house to take an elevator. –Use case 2 : Opening the front access door of a residential building When a visitor arrives at the front door, the tenant of the house sends a door open request message to the lobby phone via the HES gateway, to open the front access door. New recommendation for a logical model for linking building and home control systems –accommodate systems that provide building tenants with user control of building systems.

Proposal #1 for upgrade to IS Add a item to the basic recommendations in Clause 1 “Scope”. –accommodate systems that provide building tenants with user control of local systems. This favors an architecture where products can be designed for the user to override control decisions within parameters agreed with building management. Such actions are exercised by the building automation system and affect local systems. This enhances user safety and user privacy; –accommodate systems that provide building tenants with user control of building systems. This favors an architecture where products can be designed for the user to share some building systems with the others within parameters agreed with building management. This enhances user convenience; –provide seamless links between systems that are based on different architectures, that incorporate different communications protocols, and that may be purchased from different manufacturers. Modify some texts influenced by the above recommendation. –Subclause 5.1, 5.3

Proposal #2 for upgrade to IS Add Clause 3 “Conformance Requirement”. –HES-conforming systems shall follow the physical structure in subclause to enable integration among applications. –Different manufacturers or operations personnel may be responsible for the various application domains even while sharing components. Therefore, messages among application domains shall conform to standardized data formats for sharing of components, as required in subclause The relationship among the components shall be programmed upon installation or dynamically, as required in subclause –The building control system shall not directly be linked to sensors, actuators and appliances in each Tenant Unit, as required in Clause 5.1. Also, the tenant control system shall not directly be linked to sensors, actuators and appliances in the building unit, as required in Clause 5.1. –The network interface may provide the functionality, as listed in Clause 5.2. –An integrated control system among tenant units and the building shall follow the requirements specified in Clause 5.3.
