Outline Introduction Projects Concepts learned Experience Conclusion

Introduction Computer Information Systems Inc. Information technology business that provides design, implementation and support for servers, workstations, security systems, data and phone networks. My position was stated as a level 1 technician.

Projects Wire pulls – Oakwood, LMU & Marymount LMU switch install LMU wireless Security install – Oakwood

Wire Pulls Oakwood attic Marymount hospital LMU wireless

LMU Switch Install Assigned LMU switch install Un-box and rack 50 switches Upgrade firmware and configure

LMU Switch Install Rack all 50 switches at LMU. Patch ports to switch Patch switch to router/switch Troubleshoot

LMU Switch Install Methods of troubleshooting  Flip fiber optic ends.  Shutdown fiber port on switch  Check fiber port configuration  Replace fiber, G-bic, switch

LMU Wireless Hanging access points Server Configuration

Security Install Video backup plan DVR install Camera install

Concepts Learned Switch to port Router to switch Firewall to router DNS Redundancy Wireless mesh DVR capture & storage

Switch to Port Cable runs from port to patch panel Patch panel is labeled according to the ports Each port on the patch panel is connected to a switch by another cord.

Router to Switch Routes information between switches. Resets the hop count Information jumping from switch to switch is a hop Hubs included in a hop

Firewall to Router Firewall sits between internal and external networks. Controls the flow of information between the two networks.

DNS Domain Name System translates humanly meaningful names into numerical identifiers for network equipment. Every domain has to have one.

Redundancy Having backup equipment installed so that in the event that one device fails another can take over instantaneously.  Network equipment  Server power supplies  Battery backups

Wireless Mesh A wireless communication network made up of many nodes that act as a single node. Each node establishes a connection with another node wirelessly.

DVR Capture & Storage A Digital Video Recorder controls when and how footage is captured and stored. How much video needs to be readily available? How long does the video need to be stored?

Experience An eye opener Experience that can not be found in the class room. Holding your own while learning.

Conclusion Projects  Wire pulls – Oakwood, LMU & Marymount  LMU switch install  LMU wireless  Security install – Oakwood Real world experience Concepts learned  Switch to port  Router to switch  Firewall to router  DNS  Redundancy  Wireless mesh  DVR capture & storage
