3DCS FEA Compliant Modeler Module © Dimensional Control Systems Inc Clamp/Weld 3DCS FEA Compliant Modeler Variation Modeling with Compliant Parts & Assemblies Accurate and realistic rendering Assembly variation with deformable parts Seamless integration within 3DCS

3DCS FEA Compliant Modeler Module © Dimensional Control Systems Inc What is it? The 3DCS FEA Compliant Modeler is an add-on module to 3DCS which utilizes Finite Element Methods to accurately simulate variation of compliant parts and assemblies.

3DCS FEA Compliant Modeler Module © Dimensional Control Systems Inc What does it do? 3DCS FEA Compliant Modeler simulates compliant part deformation resulting from manufacturing operations such as clamping, welding, unclamping, and force application.

3DCS FEA Compliant Modeler Module © Dimensional Control Systems Inc How does it work? The 3DCS FEA Compliant Modeler deforms the parts during simulation based on the part stiffness matrix for each compliant part that has been imported into the 3DCS model. The FEA Mesh and stiffness matrix is acquired from software like Abaqus, Hypermesh and NASTRAN. The part stiffness matrix defines how a deformation at one point will affect other areas of the part – where, and how severely. Clamp/Weld

3DCS FEA Compliant Modeler Module © Dimensional Control Systems Inc How is it different? Variation Analysis modeling methods for compliant parts Current Method - Rigid New Method – FEA based Engineering assumptions3DCS FEA Compliant Modeler All parts assumed rigid or assumptions made to define bending of compliant parts. Utilizes the stiffness matrix from FEA software to accurately reflect compliant parts and their interactions within a model. Deficiencies: × Only as good as the assumptions made × Modeler must have knowledge of how compliant parts react Benefits: Accurately predict variation of compliant parts & assemblies No Guess work for modeler Easy interface to learn & use Visualize the effects of part deformation

3DCS FEA Compliant Modeler Module © Dimensional Control Systems Inc Where can it be used? Process / products that include compliant / flexible parts. Product / Manufacturing engineering for assembly. –Virtually all areas of multi-part assemblies including the machines that make the parts Fabrication process development. –Multi stage machining process

3DCS FEA Compliant Modeler Module © Dimensional Control Systems Inc Placement in DCS product line 3DCS®Geo-Factor®GDM-Web®GDM-3D® Graphical SPC Reporting and Analysis DCS Technologies to connect your design and manufacturing process Integrated 3D Tolerance Analysis 3DCS FEA Compliant Modeler

3DCS FEA Compliant Modeler Module © Dimensional Control Systems Inc What are the Benefits? Accurately simulate variation of compliant assemblies. No guess work by engineer to estimate the effects of compliant assemblies (bending, welding, clamping, spring-back…). FEM/FEA incorporated into 3DCS Model
