And because of countless reasons

BIOGRAPHY John Lennon formed a band called “Quarrymen” in the mid 50s. Two years later, around 50s, Paul McCartney joined to the band. Not so much later, George Harrison joined. In 1960, Quarrymen changed its name into Silver Beatles, then they became just the Beatles In the summer of 1960, the band was completed with Stuart Sutcliffe on bass and Pete Best as drummer.

HAMBURG DAYS… BEATLES ON THE ROAD OF FAME…

HAMBURG DAYS Beatles expanded their repertoire and invested their show in Hamburg At the end of 1960, they returned to Liverpool and created excitement on the local circuit. They increased their fame in Cavern Club in the Merseyside area. They returned to Hamburg at 1961 but Sutcliffe dropped out from the band. They made their first recordings in Germany.

HAMBURG DAYS

BEATLEMANIA IS COMING SOON… In 1961, Beatles met Brian Epstein who became the manager of Beatles until the end… It was a turning point for the Beatles.. Epstein’s presence bough George Martin, producer, who contributed to Beatles so much In 1962, Pete Best was kicked out and Ringo Starr (Richard Starkey) came. “Please Please Me” album was topped in British charts in early “She Loves You” and “I Want to Hold Your Hand” established the group not just as a popular music act but as a phenomenon that had been never seen in British entertainment business.

BEATLEMANIA DAYS The Ed Sullivan Show on February 1964 was a turning point, it launched Beatlemania and British Invasion in US and entire the world. No one has dominated the music market so heavily- Top Five nest selling singles in US and enters Billboard Top 100. A Hard Day’s Night in a cinéma vérité-style motion picture comedy/musical that cemented their image as "the Fab Four”. Beatles’ second film Help! in 1965 came out. Panny’s Lane/ Strawberry Fields Forever in 1965 prooved that Beatles were pushing forward limits.

TOP YEARS &BREAK UP Sgt.Pepper was released in a conceptual unity with fairy tale-ish lyrics and singalong melodies. All You Need is Love represents the hippie anthem and Beatles became the spokesman for the youth. The death of Brian Epstein in 1967 because of overdose was a sign for the break up of Beatles The White Album came out in 1968 with success- but members started to be worried about individualism. Beatles broke up in April with the announcement of McCartney’s leaving the band.

TOP YEARS &BREAK UP

BEATLEMANIA “Bigger than Jesus…” by John Lennon

BEATLEMANIA What is Beatlemania? Beatlemania is a term that is described to tell the intense and crazy fan attitude towards Beatles especially in their early times. When did Beatlemania start? It erupted in UK after the singles of “She Loves You” and “I Want to Hold Your Hand” but the turning point was Ed Sullivan Show on February 9,1964.

Characteristics of Beatlemania Why are they so popular? Music Orginality in melodies High rate of production in the composition by Lennon and McCartney Combination of regularity of rhytm together with syncopation (especially in “And I Love Her” and “She is a Woman” Great harmonic variety Modal tonality All of these aspects created simplicity that a one person can easily adapt these songs…

Characteristics of Beatlemania Poetic Expression Extensive use of classical rhtyms and rhymes Presence of Celtic forms Poetic Content Songs are entirely about love but without sexual content Love is idealized and women is treated like Goddess CREATES DILEMMA W İ TH THE MODERN WORLD AND CAUSES A NEW WAVE IN THE YOUTH..

Characteristics of Beatlemania In Conclusion… Being a Beatle fan is independent of degree of education and specialized musical education.. Male fans: the idealization of women was recognized and maintained as an ego goal Women fans: creating a desire to be “loved and worshipped” like Beatles idealize women

BRIAN EPSTEIN “If anyone was the fifth Beatle, it was Brian…” Paul McCartney

BRIAN EPSTEIN He was the manager of Beatles group and his role was so big in the Beatles’ success that he was often called “Fifth Beatle”

BRIAN EPSTEIN Why is he “Fifth Beatle”? He was the one who discovered the Beatles – at the end of He provided George Martin to be the producer of the Beatles who contributed so much to Beatles. In their early times, he built up the image of Beatles- instead of leather jackets and trousers, he made them wear suits and ties (Beatles’ famous image of “cute school boys”). He replaced Pete Best with Ringo Star- he was an incredible drummer each track has its own drum sound, own specific patterns and great partnership with McCartney. He limited himself only in business matters and public image and left Beatles free in their music so Beatles’ creativity and each of members’ individuality were emphasized.

BRIAN EPSTEIN ALSO… He prepared Beatlemania by distrubing 5 million “The Beatles are coming” stickers, convinced weekly magazines to publish about Beatles and pressed 1-million units of promotional Beatles interview record and disturbed them to radios.

GEORGE MARTIN A man who contributed so much in Beatles…

GEORGE MARTIN Why is he so important? He produced almost all of the Beatles’ material for the recording medium. He was experienced and had an extensice musical training let him to be sensitive to Lennon’s and McCartney’s ideas. He wrote instrumental score of Yellow Submarine film and soundtrack album. When Lennon wanted two different versions of “Strawberry Fields Together”; he spliced the two versions even they were in different keys and tempo- the result was excellent. Martin’s care for detail and nuance provided that each element of the production on Beatles’ records is carefully placed so these elements became the nature part of the song.

BEATLES THANK YOU FOR LISTENING…
