Fostering worldwide interoperability TIA and Cyber Security TIA DEL DOCUMENT #:GSC14-GTSC7-006 TIA Cyber Security FOR:Presentation SOURCE:TIA AGENDA ITEM:GTSC 4.2 CONTACT(S):Dan Bart

Fostering worldwide interoperability 2 Overview (1) TIA does not have a Technical Group specifically working on “Cyber Security.” At TIA cyber security is just part of SECURITY and thus that technical area was covered in the TIA Contribution PLEN- 008 on Security and Lawful Interception However the issue of Cyber Security is currently a hot topic in USA, from Industry, Regulatory, and Legislative perspectives expected-attendees/ Securing-Our-Nations-Cyber-Infrastructure/ df Cyber security ties into several Standards Panels at ANSI that TIA and TIA members participate on such as the ANSI HSSP, ANSI IDSP, and ANSI HITSP from Security, ID Theft and Privacy Perspectives, and other initiatives in the USA such as “Smart Grid,” and Process Control or SCADA Systems.

Fostering worldwide interoperability 3 Overview (2) TIA and TIA members however do support and participate in many of the initiatives focused on the subject of “cyber security” in the USA The Department of Commerce, National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) Economic Security Work Group (ECONSEC WG) The National Infrastructure Advisory Council (NIAC) The National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee (NSTAC) The Partnership for Critical Infrastructure Security (PCIS) Cross-Sector Cyber Security Working Group (CSCSWG) See presentation by co chair of CSCSWG

Fostering worldwide interoperability 4 Overview (3) TIA and TIA members also participate on the US Communications Sector Coordinating Council (Comm SCC),

Fostering worldwide interoperability 5 Strategic Directions In March 2009, NSTAC provided input on President Obama’s 60-day Cyber Study Group’s review efforts Recommendation 5.4 of that NSTAC report dealt with STANDARDS In May 2009 NSTAC approved a report to President Obama on “Cybersecurity Collaboration.” That Report will be posted at:

Fostering worldwide interoperability 6 Next Steps/Actions Continue to monitor Cyber Security work in the various groups addressing the issues.

Fostering worldwide interoperability 7 Proposed Resolution Will determine based on HIS Panel Discussions
