Schedule and Rationale Specific goals/advantages of the new schedule are: 1. Emphasis on core subjects of Chinese, Mathematics, and English (Grades 2-8), which are taught daily. 2. Prescribed number of periods for each subject per grade in the core subjects as well as science, social studies, art, music, PE, and computers. 3. Six standard academic periods with three 50- minute morning periods and three 45-minute afternoon classes.

Schedule and Rationale 4. Leveled classes in Chinese (grades 5-8) and mathematics (grades 3-8) based on academic background, exceptional effort, maturity, and success. 5. More clearly defined start time of 8:30 and dismissal time of 3:30 to allow for both a more productive morning meeting as well as PM Homeroom and Homework Lab with teachers. 6. Generous lunch and activity period mid-day to allow for physical activity, Student Life opportunities, and extracurricular choices and clubs for MS.
