o Identity Theft is the unorganized gain and use of a true person’s identity and personal information for unlawful purpose.

 Fastest growing crime  44.0 million victims in 4 years  11.7 million victims in 2005  9.9 million victims in 2008  The victims will spend about 28 hours cleaning up credit and personal records.

 Name  Address  Date of birth  Social Security Number  Credit Card or Bank Number

 They may open new credit card accounts  May change your billing address so your bill runs up  They use your name for whatever they want to buy and make your bills run up.

 File a police report  Checking credit reports  Notifying creditors

 Rich  Poor  People with bad credit  Toddlers  Deceased people  celebrities

 Identity Fraud is using the personal information, the stolen identity is created and can be supported by counter fit documents.

 Identity theft is charged for an aggravated crime and provides sentencing guidelines.  The punishment increases by two years if you get charged for aggravated crime.

 You can use Life Lock.  It costs only $10 a month.  Also there is something called Protect My ID.  You get a 30 day free trial and if you like it it’s only $9.95 a month.

 Illegal immigrants steal identities to get jobs.  Some people steal identities because they don’t think they have anything so they steal so they can have stuff.  Or even maybe somebody stole their identity so they want to steal somebody else’s.
