P o l l i n a t i o n Bees travel from flower to flower, gathering nectar and collecting pollen. Sometimes the pollen that is sticking to the bee from one flower, sticks to the pistil of another flower. P o l l i n a t i o n

Bees gather NECTAR--a mixture of water, sugar, and other nutrients made by flowers.

Bees also collect pollen--a yellowish or reddish powder made by the male part of the flower called the stamen! Bee Pollen

The parts of the flower Pollen Pistil, Egg Petal

Pollination is the process needed for seeds to develop. When the pollen lands on the sticky part of the pistil, it travels to the egg deep inside the flower. The pollen joins the egg and forms the seed...

Many living things will move the pollen from flower to flower. You and I are pollinators when we run through a field of flowers. Pollen can be moved from flower to flower with the wind, in water, attached to birds and insects.

On average, one bee will travel to over 1,000 flowers each day!!! Busy as a Bee On average, one bee will travel to over 1,000 flowers each day!!!

Bees pollinate many crops that give us food! Many plants would not be able to make seeds unless bees pollinated their flowers. Bees pollinate many crops that give us food!

Take a few minutes and think about the part so a flower. Describe what each flower part does? How do insects like bees help flowers? Write your ideas in your science journal. Click your mouse or press the space bar to continue.

Let’s take a trip through the garden! Just stay SEEDED and ENJOY!
