Base plate and occlusal rims One of first steps in construction of dentures Base plate-represents body of denture Occlusal rim-wax block. Used by lab technician to place denture teeth

Steps The teeth are articulated in the lab, tested in the patient’s mouth-final fittings completed Last step-construction of dentures: Investment or covering of rims Wax is replaced by acrylic-forms denture base

Lab Activity 1. Prepare edentulous model Use marker or pencil to mark around area where denture will fit Sprinkle model with baby powder 2. Soften a half sheet of baseplate wax with alcohol torch Using gloved fingers press wax onto form 3. Trim excess wax with a lab knife or scalpel 1/6 to ¼ inch around mucobuccal fold area

Lab continued 4. Contour wax into mucobuccal fold-pressing against plate and conforming to pencil line Use a pencil eraser Do not tear wax
