Breastfeeding Jeopardy Sore Nipples Breast Problems TreatmentsMilk Supply Breastfeeding Gadgets FJ

This variation in a mother’s nipples may cause soreness.

What is the number one cause of sore nipples?

Pink, itchy, burning, white nipples may be caused by this…

These spasms cause the nipple to blanch and turn white, causing nipple pain

A lot of times new mothers forget to do this, which can stress nipple tissue and cause sore nipples.

This condition is usually caused by infrequent breastfeedings and may occur when the milk volume increases.

The newborn needs to be put to breast a minimum of 8x/day to establish this hormone. (hormone causes milk production and relaxation in the mother)

This hormone decreases during lactation, which is linked with the mother’s decreased risk of breast cancer later in life.

Name four signs or symptoms of a plugged milk duct.

If a mother does not take care of this problem, she may end up with an incision and drainage of the breast.

This used to be recommended for sore nipples many years ago, but has been found to cause drying and cracking of the nipple and areola.

Name two treatments for sore nipples.

This gadget can facilitate latch- on when a mother has flat nipples and can increases milk transfer at the breast for some preterm infants.

Name two treatments for engorgement.

This treatment for sore nipples is usually performed by an ENT or pediatric dentist

This is the name of a substance that increases milk supply.

Thermal synchrony Bonding Breastfeeding

This stage of mature milk production is not hormone- driven and depends on milk removal to produce milk

Removing milk from the breast frequently increases these two things.
