Cause of French & Indian War Study the map and describe one cause of the French and Indian War?

Population and Economic Push Causes of French & Indian War From the Diagram, list two causes of the French and Indian War?

Study the Map and describe one reason why: 1.The British wanted Control of the Ohio Valley. 2.American Colonists wanted Access? 3.The French wanted Control.

Question: Which side do you think the Native Americans would support? Why?

The French were more interested in the fur trade and had better relations with the Native Americans. The French had converted many Native Americans to Catholicism, so there was also a religious component.

Question: Were there any Native Americans on the British side? If so, who?

The Iroquois Confederation –Iroquois, Mohawks, Oneidas, Onondagas, Cayugas, and Tuscaroras (1715) Traded with both the British and the French Mid 1700’s gave trading rights to the British, upsetting the balance of power.

George Washington Virginia Planter and Surveyor Wanted to become a British Officer Wanted some of the land in the Ohio Country During the Battle, Washington Captures a French Officer who is later killed by one of Washington’s Native American Allies. Washington signs a document of surrender – in French. Washington does not speak French. In the document he admits to the murder of the French Officer.

George Washington Hero to the Colonists because he landed the first blow against the French. Seen as a goat by the British for his loss and, most importantly, the admission to murder in the surrender document. This document will block Washington's goal of becoming a regular British Officer.

May 28, 1754 Washington attacks Jumonville’s party; Jumonville is killed. June 19 – July 11 The Albany Congress meets without Virginia’s participation. Benjamin Franklin suggests a union of the colonies (“Join or Die”); it is rejected. June 28 Capt. de Villiers leaves Ft. Duquesne with 700 men to search for the British who killed Jumonville. July 1 Washington and Mackay and their men arrive back at Great Meadow from road building at Redstone and reinforce Fort Necessity; Half King appears, surveys the scene, advises Washington to leave and departs himself with his Indians. Start of the War: Sequence of Events

July 3 The Battle of Fort Necessity October London publishes the commission of Major General Braddock as British Commander in North America and announce the dispatch of Halkett’s Forty-Fourth and Dunbar’s Forty-Eighth Regiments for a campaign in America. Late October George Washington resigns his commission when Gov. Dinwiddie reorganizes the Regiment and reduces officer’s rank. Tanacharrison, the Half King, dies. December 1754 George Washington leases Mount Vernon from his widowed sister-in-law. Feb. 23, 1755 Gen. Braddock arrives in Williamsburg Start of the War: Sequence of Events

The Albany Plan

What were some potential problems with the Albany Plan?

If the plan would have worked, would there have been a need for the American Revolution?

Conclusion Because of population growth expanding from the coast into the backcountry, British competition in the American fur trade, and a shift in the balance of power in the region, the traditional enemies of England and France face off in North America. Question: Do events create the men or do men create the events?
