Die Raamwerk

Robert Mulholland: “Christian spiritual formation is the process of being conformed to the image of Christ for the sake of others.”

My verantwoordelikheid is om - die ruimte te skep waarbinne God kan werk - nie weerstand te bied teen dit wat God wil doen nie

Mulholland beskryf dit soos volg: “A spiritual discipline is an act of loving obedience offered to God to be used for God’s purposes in our lives. Anything and everything we do can be a spiritual discipline if we offer it to God as a means for God to use in our lives if God so chooses. A genuine spiritual discipline entails the offering of our self to God. The false self, which would “do” the discipline to transform itself to its own agenda, is abandoned. Control is yielded to God.”

Adele Ahlberg Calhoun skryf weer die volgende: “We bring our ache for change, our longing for belonging, our desperation to make a difference. Then we keep company with Jesus by making space for him through a spiritual discipline. Our part is to offer ourselves lovingly and obediently to God. God then works within us doing what he alone can do. Our desires don’t obligate the Holy One. God is free to come to us in spiritual disciplines as he wills, not as we demand. But unless we open ourselves to him through spiritual practices, we will miss his coming altogether.”

Those who do not make the effort to ponder God’s word should not be surprised if they are unable to pray – Cloud of the Unknowing

Oor die gawe van Lectio Divina sê McGrath die volgende: “Reading without meditation is sterile. Meditation without reading leads us astray. Prayer without meditation is half hearted. Meditation without praying is unproductive. Praying devotedly leads to contemplation.”(McGrath in Van Dam bl. 30)
