Qualifications: Structural Engineering Degree from Syria NARIC: Equivalent to British bachelor Degree : studying English language and other courses : BTEC and Business Management : MSc Civil Engineering- university of East London with distinction.
Immigration: 2004 forced to leave Syria by persecution : work prohibited in the UK as an asylum seeker 2011: Granted Refugee Leave to Remain in the UK.
Engineering Experience: : Syria: executive engineer in building departments and dam building 2004: Site manager for the project no 7 which included 3 sub-projects: - a hospital - a water station - local council building
2007: joined small Architects practice, London as part time CAD technician (minimum wage) : working with Enki while studying Msc now: still working with Enki. What I learned from part time CAD job: Design and calculate structural elements Communications skills Working and discussion with architects Building control applications/ details including fire risk assessment and Thames water. Health and safety and legal regulations
Software: Super Beam Euro Beam Auto Cad Staad Pro Languages: English Arabic Kurdish and elementary Turkish
Why can’t find Civil, Str Eng. job? Unsolved equation: Can’t get experience before working but company do not accept without experience. Gap in career UK Economy Too many engineers. Many companies think refugees do not have work permission.
What I want to do next? Work in a Structural Engineering To be part of the UK professional body( ICE, IEE) and involved in the professional society. To be a chartered engineer. To be positive in society and provide a better life quality for my family
