Strategic Plan Updates Updates to Background, Mission, and Vision minimal – primarily editorial  Added energy conservation as possible air quality strategy Focus today on Key Results Areas  Specific objectives and activities

Key Result Area 1 Maintain and Enhance the Capabilities of State Staff  Objective 1: New Employee “WESTAR” Orientation Packet  Methodize Approach to Professional Development Determine Needs Evaluate Tools Packet Development Evaluation and Implementation

Key Result Area 1 (cont’d) Maintain and Enhance the Capabilities of State Staff  Objective 2: Create Training Needs Assessment Tool Box  Enhanced Ability to Determine Staff Training Needs Evaluate Approaches Identify Tools Select Appropriate Tools Evaluation and Implementation

Key Result Area 2 Promote efficiencies in air quality management - reduce inconsistent EPA regional oversight  Objective: By December 2008, policies to address inconsistencies across EPA regions.  Outcome: Less dispute between WESTAR member states and EPA over policy interpretations.

Key Result Area 2 (cont’d) Regional Haze -  By January 2008, assist states in developing approvable regional haze SIPs.  By January 2006, regional haze SIP review protocol

Key Result Area 2 (cont’d) By December 2005, advocate for changes to the Natural Events Policy. By March 2006, resolve technical constraints to preparing PSD increment analyses. By January 2007, develop an improved policy approach to PSD.

Key Result Area 3 Objective: By December 2008, WESTAR will make a significant contribution to the development of at least one important air quality improvement measure/program  By April 2006, select one or more initiative(s)  By December 2008, ensure implementation of selected initiative(s)
