Hayley Mateer

This is me on my first birthday. My mom said I was always a happy baby. Although I am the youngest child in my family, let alone the only girl, I wasn’t one to throw a tantrum so I would get what I wanted. Although this may be the result of my calm personality, I blame a lot of this on my amazing parents.

At an early age my parents took me to church and were very religious. This has helped me through many hard times that I have faced in my life and still helps me today. My parents were very involved in my life and were always there to talk to me. My mom always came into my room at night to talk about how my day went. When my dad came home from work he would always take time to play. I knew that my parents cared by the way they made me feel important.

After graduating from high school I had the chance to be a nanny for a family in Europe. Since I hadn’t traveled much and lived in Utah my whole life, this was quite an experience. I was able to gain independence and I learned a greater understanding of what it’s like to take care of children all day everyday. I also learned how to travel by myself in a foreign country. It helped me learn how to do things on my own. I was able to travel to Germany, Switzerland and Spain and was able to gain a greater understanding of many different cultures.

In June 2007, I married my best friend. I had had a lot of dating experiences and I found one man that I wanted to be with for the rest of my life. Being married has made me understand a lot about life. I have learned a lot about communication.

Right now I am in school. My parents where always very supportive of me and now that I am in college they really encourage me to keep going. My husband is also a huge support in my life. Having such a great support system has helped me continue with things. Right now I am working at a dental office and I love working with people and helping people. Both working for a Dentist and going to school will help me in pursuing my career as a dental hygienist. I love helping people and I want to pursue a career where I can do this. I also want to be a mother. I have many opportunities to take care of children and be around them for long periods of times and I learned that it takes a lot of patience and love to take care of a child. There are so many events that have helped me in my life. I have great family and friends that have encouraged me and loved me. Having a great environment to grow up in has made me very grateful for life and I want to be able to help others with that.
