Presentation transcript:

 The first thing soldiers were taught was to march.  They were trained to march in line in a compact formation even in battle.  Soldiers marched twenty roman miles over the summer months. (29.6 km)

 Wickerwork shields and wooden swords were used in training. They were twice as heavy as normal weapons.  The logic behind this was that if you could fight with these weapons, you would be twice as effective with real weapons.  After completing the initial training with the sword, the recruit was to master the spear, called the pilum.

 The Roman Legion attacked in formation.

 The tortoise formation was used by the Romans to protect against flying projectiles and ground troops.

 One weapon used by the Roman Empire was the Gladius. The Gladius is a 50cm sword that is very light.  Another weapons used by the Roman Empire is the Pilum is a throwing spear. A soldier carries two Pilum.  One last weapon that is used by the Roman Empire is the Pugio. A Pugio takes the place of a sidearm. It is a small dagger.

 Laminate Strip Cuirass- A complex piece of armor that provided superior protection to other forms of armor.  Chainmail armor-Rings of iron or bronze linked together in layers to make a badass piece of armor.  Scale armor-It was the most common form of armor.
