I am a RAF Captain…Now What? Welcome Thank you for your commitment to C.A.R., organized real estate and the REALTOR® Action Fund

Your Mission Statement Your primary function is to provide political education to local members and to encourage RAF contributions.

Objectives 1. Set the example: contribute $197 to RAF 2. Help meet your association’s RAF fundraising goals! “Call for the Question” at every local association meeting. 3. Provide support for REALTORS® in the areas of political education and RAF fundraising. 4. Develop and assist in organizing local fundraising events, as well as attend office meetings to make your pitch.

There is No “I” in Team This is a “TEAM” effort! Do not be afraid to ask your AE and/or GAD to help you: 1.Communicate with C.A.R. staff. 2.Prepare for outreaches at the local association and/or offices. 3.Set up an incentive program to encourage local staff to promote RAF.

Outreach Tips When C.A.R. conducted a “focus group,” members were asked about why they did or did not make their RAF contribution. The answer heard nine times out of 10 was, “WE WERE NEVER ASKED.”

Outreach Tip: 101Outreach Tip: 101 First ask to be placed on the Agenda for the monthly meetings…The following “quick talking points” should get the ball rolling for every meeting: Tell your fellow REALTORS® how much money their association raised the previous year and periodically update your progress throughout the year. Be sure to thank all those who have contributed to RAF throughout the entire year! Announce the association’s RAF goal and ask for their help in achieving that goal. Provide RAF relevant materials and explain the importance of that piece.

Outreach Tip: 102Outreach Tip: 102 Now that you have poured the foundation, here is the framework for building a successful fundraising campaign. Plan special events to recognize RAF contributors. Promote Legislative Day (beginning in March). Show “The Power of REALTOR® Involvement” DVD. Invite guest speakers to promote political involvement. Give special recognition to Major Donors.

Outreach Tip: 103 Should you choose to continue… Office visits are essential to completing your mission… Obtain a list of your local offices from C.A.R. or your local association staff. Arrange a date and time for your outreach with the office manager or broker of record. Plan for a 10 minute presentation,. You may use the DVD provided by C.A.R. Recognize contributors from that office. Announce any contests that might be hosted by your local or state association.

The Fundamentals of Fundraising DO’S AND DONT’S DO’s Prior to planning a supplemental fundraising activity, please get C.A.R. staff approval. You may discuss issues. DONT’s DO NOT discuss pending legislation when conducting fundraising activities. DO NOT discuss a legislator’s vote record at a fundraising event. You MAY NOT accept cash contributions! Casino Nights are a prohibited RAF fundraising activity.

Because It is Easy! REALTORS® can simply contribute in monthly installments! Contributions of $197 may be paid over 12 months at a rate of $ It’s more affordable than a small pizza!

Taking the Next Step For existing contributors you can encourage them to “take the next step.” California Sterling R California Golden R N.A.R. Golden R This level of contribution is available in monthly installment payments.

Issues REALTORS ® Care About Elimination of Private Transfer Taxes Stopping Costly Point-of-Sale Mandates Protecting Mortgage Interest Deduction Preserving Dual Agency Preventing Frivolous Lawsuits

REALTORS® And the Political Process C.A.R.’s fiercest opponents spend millions of dollars every year to fund candidates and legislators who support legislation that would: Make it more difficult and more expensive to make a living, and; Create additional liability.
