Healthy Schools Act Local Wellness Policy Compliance

Local Wellness Policy (LWP) Technical Assistance School Nutrition and Wellness Program Provide technical assistance on LWP development, implementation, and update Conduct periodic on-site monitoring visits to ensure schools adhere to their LWP Verify school activities meet the requirements of the Healthy Schools Act Encourage schools to establish School Wellness Committees to help implement and promote their LWP

On-Site Monitoring Visits Health Education Physical Education and Physical Activity Recess (if applicable) Healthy Vending Healthy Fundraising Healthy Incentives, Prizes, and Awards Time to eat lunch and pass through the line School Wellness Committee or PTO Environmental Sustainability LWP Promotion (on school’s website)

Day of the Visit Observe Health Education – 15 minutes per week for K-8 – May be integrated into other core subjects Observe Physical Education class – 30 minutes per week for K-5 – 45 minutes per week for 6-8 – At least 50% of PE class devoted to Physical Activity Observe other opportunities for PA and Recess – Outdoor/indoor – Movement in classrooms
