Object: The Spoon A spoon is a utensil consisting of a small shallow bowl, oval or round, at the end of a handle. The earliest northern European spoon would seem to have been a chip or splinter of wood; Greek references suggest the use of shells while Egyptians likely used ivory, flint, slate and/or wood. Spoons are used primarily for eating liquid or partially-liquid foods such as yogurt, ice cream and soup. Spoons are also used in cooking and serving food.

Modern spoons The basic design of spoons has not changed since the bronze age except for the materials used, today steel and plastic are the most common. Although in the same way that all dogs come from wolves, spoons have diversified into many different "breeds", such as the tea spoon the dessert spoon, the wooden spoon, the soup spoon, the ladle, the ice cream scoop, the sieve, and even the exotic Arabian throwing spoon. the most famous spoon of all time is probably the George Washington spoon, which was used by the USA's first president to cross the Delaware because he didn't have any oars. Object: The Wheel Researchers believe the wheel, arguably one of the oldest and most important inventions, originated in ancient Mesopotamia in the 5th millennium BC. The wheel is a device that enables an object to move across a surface where there is a force pressing the object to the surface. Common examples are a cart drawn by a horse, and the rollers on an aircraft flap mechanism. Wheels are used in conjunction with axles, either the wheel turns on the axle, or the axle turns in the object body. Early wheels were simple wooden disks with a hole for the axle.

Object: Plastic “Plastic had an inauspicious birth. An Englishman, Alexander Parkes, looking for collodion in his medicine cabinet to staunch a wound, discovered that it had gelled into a tough rubbery substance. He was an enterprising man who saw the possibilities, if this substance could be molded. Unfortunately, molding required heat, and heating always made the substance explode. Parkes worked on, and finally produced a suitable mixture of collodion, camphor, and ethanol. Parkesine, the first synthetic plastic, was launched in 1865.” SOURCE
