NATIVE AMERICAN REGIONS Name, Miss Busillo, Grade 3

Powhatan  Location  The Powhatan people live in Tennesse, North Carolina, Virgina, Penneslvania, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Massuchusrtts, and West Virginia.

Powhatan  Clothing  Powhatan people make their cloths out of leather. Their clothing keeps them warm during the summer. Some of their clothing included legging, skirts, and coats. The Powhatan people made shoes called moccasins.

Powhatan  Customs  The Powhatan people had spiritual leaders. These leaders were good teachers. They taught children how to lead good lives. Spiritual leaders also helped people make hard decisions about right or rong. Today many Powhatan people still follow the tradishinol belifs.

Powhatan  Food  The Powhatan people were farmers and hunters. They ate vegetables from their gardens. They also gatherd nuts and fruits. Their favorite food was meat and fish.

Powhatan  Homes  The Powhatan people lived in rectangle- shaped houses with rounded roofs. They built the frame of their houses with wood poles. They made the roof with shades of tree barks.

Powhatan  Craft  One of the crafts they made were dream catchers. Native Americans belive that the air is filled with good and bad dreams. When hung near a b ed a dream catcher catches all the bad dreams as they fly by.
