Academy Developments LTSN has been incorporated in a new body, The higher education academy Since 1st may 2004 (launched October 2004) Along with The institute of learning & teaching in higher education (ILTHE), The body for professional accreditation And also the national coordination team (NCT) For teaching quality enhancement

The Higher Education Academy works with the UK higher education community to enhance the student experience. The Academy is the first choice of the sector for knowledge, practice and policy related to the student experience in higher education. This exciting new initiative has a strong stakeholder focus and will help institutions, subject communities, individuals, the Government and funding bodies to provide an exceptional environment for student learning.

The Higher Education Academy's vision, is for students in UK higher education to enjoy the highest quality learning experience in the world. Their mission is to support the sector in providing the best possible learning experience for all students. Their strategic aims are to: 1. Identify, develop and disseminate evidence-informed approaches 2. Broker and encourage the sharing of effective practice 3. Support universities and colleges in bringing about strategic change 4. Key Contacts Every department / school / Faculty that is teaching courses in health sciences and practice (undergraduate, post graduate, professional development and / or continuing education) is invited to be represented by a key contact(s) who is a first line of communication with the Centre.

Key Contact role Receiving communication from the Network & disseminating to all relevant staff within the department / school Making yourself known as a HSAP representative in your institution Promoting the potential benefits of involvement e.g. CPD, access to a broader community and a UK wide information network Encouraging staff to contribute articles for publication and to participate in our activities Alerting the Network to learning, teaching & assessment issues arising from work in their institution, also of relevant projects, publications etc. Meeting with other Key Contacts Hosting a Subject Centre workshop Maximising opportunities to encourage staff to a)consider their strategy for helping students learn b)evaluate and disseminate good practices in learning and teaching Making yourself known to all relevant academics in your institution

Subject Advisers’ role Assist Centre with relevant discipline enquiries Encourage wide discussion and sharing about learning and teaching issues and the Health Sciences & Practice Subject Network Take a lead in stimulating debate by: moderating email discussions, leading workshops or other events, and preparing reports for publication in Newsletter or elsewhere Engage the community through liaison and co-ordination with practitioners and specialist bodies, encouraging discussion and reflection, and through dissemination related to their area of expertise. Liaise with practitioners and specialist / professional bodies Convene meetings or host a workshop on a topic of interest to their subject area, providing a venue and feedback to the Centre. Advise the Centre on issues and resources in their specialist area. Review learning & teaching materials and web resources

Mini-Project Grants Aim to: improve the experience of learning and teaching in higher education for learners, teachers and the organisational cultures in which they operate. develop scholarship and debate about how to best improve learning and teaching practice, through commissioning reviews of literature, policy, and studies of the experience of teachers and learners in a variety of learning environments

Workshops Funded Workshop Scheme: One of funded workshop, where learning and teaching professionals from the health sciences are given a grant to run a workshop with a certain focus in mind. This is a one day event, where the HSaP supports the running of the workshop. Departmental Workshop Scheme: Departmental teams of four learning and teaching professionals from the health sciences, submit a proposal on how their want to improve or change things within their department. This scheme will need a head of department involved for the new developments to be taken seriously. Four departmental teams from different HEIs are involved in this workshop, and a special panel of professionals is also convened for the feedback to the groups. This workshop is run on two separate days.

Festival of Learning Workshops: Various workshops are ran at the festival. Giving participating academics the chance to experience and find out more about how other learning and teaching professionals are enhancing the students learning experience. Posters: The poster session allows learning and teaching professionals to showcase their work in the form of a poster presentation with a chance for discussion with other professionals.
