INSTRUCTIONS 1 As part of the Innovation Discovery event, the innovator(s) will explain their innovation to the panel. The innovator presentation will be about 15 minutes, followed by a 15 minute Q&A session during which the panel will seek to fully understand your invention. The following is a basic template to help you prepare for the Innovation Discovery event. Your goal is to give the panel a basic understanding of your innovation, without getting bogged down in too much technical detail. Your target audience consists of educated and reasonably technically literate individuals, who are probably not from your specific field. Graphics or prototypes that help explain your innovation are welcome! Nothing classified should be disclosed… If ANY questions, call or (ORTA name and contact information)

Problem Statement 2 (Very briefly, without using jargon, describe the problem that you set out to solve)  What technical problem(s) did you address?  How had the problem been addressed previously?  What were the key technical challenges?

Problem Solution 3 (Describe your solution, helping the panel to visualize this innovation with pictures, models, or prototypes)  How did you solve the problem?  What was your final solution?  How is your solution superior to the existing alternatives (its features and benefits)?

Uniqueness 4 (Help the panel understand what is new, different, and useful about your innovation)  What is unique and different about your approach to the problem?  What technology/methods/materials have you used in a new and different way?  How is your solution superior in terms of attributes such as performance, speed, size, weight, cost, and convenience?

Commercial Applications 5 (Help the panel understand potential applications for your innovation, beyond the specific military use)  What new technical opportunities does your solution open up?  Who, outside of the military, would/should be interested in your solution?  What industries could make use of your innovation?
