Computerized Record Keeping Spring 2005 UofA Ag Ed

Objectives To determine the advantages of computerized record keeping. To practice using the computerized record keeping system.

Why is keeping records important for agricultural education students? Record SAE accomplishments/activities Determine profit/loss SAE evaluation FFA Awards and Degrees Taxes

What are some common record keeping systems used in Arizona? Yellow Book (hardcopy) Decisions and Dollars Old yellow book Other state’s systems Arco Computerized Records Arizona’s Excel Records

What are the advantages to using the Arizona computerized record book? Many schools have Excel available for student use Can be used in conjunction with Arizona’s yellow record book Aligns with FFA degree and award applications Easy to use Small file size Cheap

What are the disadvantages? It does not teach record keeping Does not “roll” information to award and degree applications Does not include budgets, agreements, competency tracking “Garbage in, garbage out”

Where are some references for teaching record keeping? (American Degree Handbook) (Proficiency Award Handbook) (Proficiency Award Application Samples) Ask!! Other teachers are a great resource.

How can the computerized records be utilized in the classroom with students? Use after instruction on SAE and basic record keeping practices Students should work a sample problem Students should make entries each week “I did nothing” Evaluate every grading period
