1) A “forum for dialogue” Ongoing work: Promote use of standards in regulatory and policy work as well as by the United Nations system Achievements in 2015: Organization of the side event «Standards and DRR», at the World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in Sendai, Japan March 15

1) A “forum for dialogue” (cont.) UNECE background research on Standards for DRR (for GAR 15) UNECE & UN/HABITAT co-conveners of a task force under ISO TC 292 on «Security and resilience» To assess needs for standards in the implementation of the Sendai framework

2) Regulatory cooperation Ongoing work: Promote and participate in regulatory cooperation efforts regionally and internationally (WTO/(OECD/EASC) Develop/implement a common regulatory framework in specific sectors Telecommunications, Earth-moving equipment, ExEquipment, Pipelines safety UNECE WP. 6 at meeting of the EASC Council in Minsk (June 2015)

2) Regulatory cooperation Planned/recent activities 16 June: START Team meeting discussing Recommendation L revision – Updating the Recommendation text WTO/TBT sessions, Geneva ( June/3-6 November Geneva) – Participate actively in meetings of the WTO TBT Committee – Anniversary Event will take place on 6 November 2015 OECD - Fostering the contribution of international organisations to better rules of globalisation – UNECE to be a case study (14 April, Paris) E15 Taskforce (ICTSD & WEF): Strengthening the global trade & investment system (Task force on Regulatory Coherence) (30 March/1 April)

3) Market surveillance June: 13th MARS Group meeting, Prague Practical tasks decided on last Plenary: Mapping of all other market surveillance networks (global and regional); Developing a template for the request of data or assistance to other authorities or to other stakeholders outside of the jurisdiction; Updating the MARS global database of market surveillance authorities; Connecting to other WP.6 groups and service in order to get advice from them.

RM publication (2012) Introduces the concept of risk and risk management Adapts complex RM tools to the work of authorities Based on international standards & related terminology (specifically ISO 31000) How to, hands on approach with many examples, case studies, walk through solutions 4) Risk Management in Regulatory Frameworks

Recent activities: Field work: In cooperation with UNIDO workshops in Nigeria and in Malawi Work of Group of Experts on Risk Management in Regulatory Systems continues to draw new partners Translation of the RM publication into Russian

5) Education on Standards- Related issues Ongoing work: Promote best practice/Recommendation I Participation in the work of the ISO/IEC/ITU/University of Geneva Recent achievements: Meeting of the STARTed Group back to back to 2013 and 2014 WP. 6 sessions Maintain a database of education-related initiatives Future plans: Develop a TFIG-like resource for standards and standards-related issues

2-3 November: ISO-IEC-UNECE event on " Using and referencing ISO and IEC standards to support public policy“, Palais des Nations, Geneva – Conference and training event will look at how to reference standards in regulations, how standards can help implement policy commitments taken at the global level (e.g. sustainability, resilience and development goals), and much more. Planned activities

1–2 December: WSC Workshop on Conformity Assessment, Geneva – To help you find solutions to your conformity assessment (CA) issues – To draw on the reputation & worldwide reach of the 3 international standards organizations, IEC, ISO, ITU – To bring together and share different national situations, experience, issues & solutions – To build awareness of the value & benefits of global CA – To help solve the issues of product safety, performance, energy efficiency, fake & counterfeit products, and more 2-3 December: 25th Annual session of the Working Party – Back-to-back with the WSC workshop and including a special session on Conformity Assessment – Revision of Recommendation L Planned activities
